Thinking of Mama on Her Birthday!

 

April 30, 1919 - August 19, 1979

Pearlena Hay Bell was born to Shinet George and Gent Hay Sr. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, Maggie Williams George. She was raised with her older aunts Elnora and Lou George and her Aunt Clotee and Uncle Wilson Levingston. She was cared for and greatly loved by them all. 

She had one sister and one brother on her maternal side: Eleze Birch and Pongee Bell

On her paternal side she had sisters: Doris, Ora, Annie, Tessie Lee and Theo and a brother, Charlie.

In addition to being very close to her maternal aunts and uncles, she was also close to her paternal cousins who treated her as if she was a sister: Foster, Fred, Gent Jr, Porter and Shedrick. She was affectionately called "Hay"

She was married to Union Bell in November 1937. They had 14 children: Jean, Mattie, LouVata, Margaret, Herman, Joe Cotry, Mary, Ray Edward, James Rogers, Wallace, Pearlie Ann, Glenidell, Collina "Rikki" & Thomas

She was loving mother who always seems to know what her children needed and measured out the exact amount that each one needed. She was a blessing. She was also a wonderful grandmother who had the chance to spend time with many of her grandchildren and they experienced her special love and called her Mama.  

Shinet Bryant George - Her parents were Maggie Williams George and Allen George
Her sisters were Elnora, Lou, Clotee. Her brothers were Ed, Roosevelt, Wilson, Madden and Lannie.
Her children were Pearlena, Eleze and Pongee. She was a loving grandmother who is still talked of often as being joy to them. She raised me (Rikki) from 7 months until she passed when I was 11 1/2 years.
Maggie's parents were Cindy Mozeke Williams and Jerry Williams.
Allen's father was Herbert Bryant. His maternal grandmother was Phyllis Johnson.

Gentry "Gent" Hay Sr - His parents were Flora Mitchell and William T Hay. 

His sisters were Flora, Ardella, Jimmie, Willie, Ula and Mamie and Clidie. His brothers were Johnny, Dave, Cleveland, Cubb, Jeff, Jim. His children were Pearlena, Charlie, Ora, Annie, Doris, Theo and Tessie Lee. 

William's father was Thomas Hay.
