July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. It is a time to bring awareness to the unique challenges that racial and ethnic minorities in the United States face when it comes to mental illness. In 2020, fewer than one in every two African American adults got care for mental health. In 2018, Asian Americans were 60 percent less likely to receive mental health treatment than non-Hispanic Whites. Obstacles for many include a lack of health insurance, less access to treatment, and stigma.
Mental illness can affect women of all races and ethnicities. Show your support this month and beyond by learning more about mental health. You can also use and share the resources below to help spread awareness about mental health in your communities and families. https://www.fda.gov/consumers/knowledge-and-news-women-owh-blog/national-minority-mental-health-awareness-month
What to ask yourself when trying to declutter books
- Have I read this book before?
- Will I read it again?
- Does it hold any sentimental value?
- Is this book still relevant or is it outdated?
- Is it easily accessible at a library or online?
- Have I outgrown this book?
- Would someone else benefit from reading this book more than I would?

to your community?
ツ your family,
ツ your friends, and to
ツ the community you live in?
If you knew it could positively impact your health, would you become connected or increase your connections?
For many, it’s a sense of cohesiveness among a group of people.
For generations, a community served a vital role in terms of offering camaraderie and acting as a support system.
With COVID issues still an issue impacting busy schedules, frequency of changing jobs, homes, and locations, it makes it harder to feel any sense of community. It’s too easy to become isolated in your home, even though isolation can create a sense of loneliness and depression, let alone detachment from others and breakdowns in your community.
Research has shown people excluded from their community or who have limited connection to others, are more likely to have reduced levels of quality not only in their physical health but mental health as well. Yet when connections are strong and robust in a community, residents are generally healthier, happier, and as a result, more involved and engaged in civic life. ツ
