Let me tell you about my friend Pamela…

Pamela is an award-winning civil rights attorney who has spent her 40-year career fighting for human rights and standing in the gap for everyday people against sex, race, and gender discrimination and harrassment.

Her journey to justice began as a civil rights activist who was arrested at 13 years old in a civil rights demonstration. From there, she survived the Ohio juvenile justice and foster care system and made it to Yale University. At Yale, she became the lead plaintiff in the groundbreaking Title IX case - Alexander (Price) v. Yale - which established that sexual harrassment in education is illegal. Pamela’s case taught her that lawyers can be advocates for change and support movements for human rights, so she left New Haven with her BA in Political Science and came to California to attend UC Berkeley Law School.

In 2002, a decade after opening her own law firm, she successfully argued in the United States Supreme Court in Amtrak v. Morgan, receiving a 5-4 decision with the majority opinion written by Clarence Thomas. This case established the “continuing violation” doctrine that still applies to all discrimination cases brought under federal law in the United States. Currently, Pamela has 13 published opinions, and has been named a Northern California Super Lawyer every year since 2004.

Now, Pamela wants to use her years of experience and expertise to bring transparency, equity, accountability and compassion to the District Attorney’s office in Alameda County.

I encourage you to learn more about Pamela’s incredible story and high profile law career.
